Methods of Help
-
Listening
The first step to help people and animals. I studied and practiced psychoanalytic self psychology whose roots are empathic listening. I learned how to suspend my own understanding of life, feelings, thoughts, sensations, etc. and open my senses to another’s experience. I understand and grasp where we are starting together because without a truly mutual connection with the animal from its perspective, we won’t make effective progress.

Bio-scalar wave
Developed by Dr. Valerie Hunt at UCLA, scalar wave is energy healing that is done in a set of 3 sessions either in as many days or over a longer time and it is billed as 1 hour. It’s ideal for fear-based behaviors.
In meditation, I follow the scalar protocol which is organized as clearing the chakras. After each time, I send you my notes. Then I ask you to send your observations of the animal before I do the next one.

EFT/EMDR
EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) taps acupressure points on either people or animals, primarily on the head and chest. With people, I’ve used it for grief, negative experiences with animals, and when the memories of an animal’s negative behavior blocks the person from trusting an animal after treatment. The latter happens frequently and must be addressed or the distorted view of the animal will cause a return of the problem. EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is bilateral (side to side) tapping that works neurologically. It unlocks blocked, unconscious memories of trauma so higher brain functions can successfully process the experience into increased learning and adaptive functioning.
EMDR creates new neural pathways in the brain, and it is the ONLY method of psychotherapy proven by empirical, scientific means. To date, there is no evidence that symptoms recur after complete EMDR processing.
Why settle for EFT when you can have both?

Acupressure
I teach you how to do whatever seems appropriate. The simplest and most common are wax off/wax on for the shoulder or hip joints and the bladder sweep which is calming. Once I approached an older dog resting and observing at the dog park. After speaking briefly with the owner, I offered to do wax off/on. When I finished a few sets, the dog got up and as he walked away, the owner told me that that was the most he’d walked at the park in months. It can provide immediate relief.
